We are seeking an experienced journalist with excellent reporting and writing skills to be Chief Energy Correspondent covering the Middle East, based in Dubai. This is an exciting opportunity to lead Reuters’ energy coverage from the world’s top oil producing region. The successful candidate will break news on OPEC supply policy from this key position in the wider global Reuters energy team. You will also break news on Saudi and other regional government energy policies. You will break news on major investments, divestments, outages and attacks on energy installations and infrastructure.
You will report on how officials around the region grapple with the energy transition and its consequences for their oil and gas revenues and the economies that depend on fossil fuel exports.
About The Role
As our Chief Energy Correspondent in the region, you will:
- Bring enthusiasm, energy, stamina, commitment and the desire to win on breaking news on OPEC policy- always one of the biggest oil stories
- Be a team player. You need to work closely, collaboratively and collegially with the global Reuters oil team to win the OPEC file
- Bring original ideas for stories on OPEC and governmental policy and on trends and changes in the industry
- Deliver a first-class initiative file that will include ambitious investigative pieces
- Be a strong all-round journalist comfortable breaking news and filing at speed as well as reporting and writing deeply reported enterprise stories
- Contribute to stories across the file that require regional input on energy
To be our Chief Energy Correspondent you will likely have:
- At least five years’ experience covering energy, preferably including OPEC and supply policy, as well as physical oil markets.
- Strong news judgement, writing and story-telling skills
- A proven track record of breaking major stories
- A compelling file of published deeply reported pieces written to the highest standards
- Exceptional contact building skills
- The ability to explain complex industry and market issues to a wide business audience
- Wider experience covering finance, business or financial markets
- Experience using data and analytical tools to highlight trends
- Spoken Arabic
