Peraton is seeking a PASHTO Linguist and Cultural Advisor (CULAD) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting a large program. This position is located in Qatar. The PASHTO Linguist/CULAD will provide continuous monitoring, expert analysis, and assessment of global, regional, and tailored area geopolitical media and news sources. The position is an unaccompanied assignment that can be extended by the customer and if elected by the individual chosen to provide support. Role and Responsibilities:
- To gather information on trends, behaviors, events and directed global developments to generate media synopsis reports and assessments of local geopolitics and foreign media discourse
- Produce predictive recommendations and identify anticipated strategic communications opportunities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop marketing and support communications plans
- Monitor industry and technology trends in traditional, digital, social, mobile media
- Use directed, or design research methods appropriate to pre-defined client criteria
- Interpret and analyze oral and written source material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations.
- Provide cultural expertise in written or oral form
- Analyze data for coded patterns of information
- Interpret data for information for a range of deductions encompassing breadth of subjects
Basic Qualifications:
- Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and at least of 10 years of experience or a Master’s Degree and 8 years of Experience (Will accept 14 years of experience in lieu of a degree)
- 5 years of experience as a researcher monitoring media and providing analysis of trends, political events, and geopolitical impacts
- A minimum of 4/4/4 testing scores both in English and PASHTO
- Ability to provide high quality presentations and work with small and large groups
- Have an in depth understanding of the cultural differences, nuances, customs, symbolism, mannerisms, and traditions of the various ethnic groups residing throughout the Middle East
- Excellent oral, written and electronic communication in English
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a current and Active DoD TS with SCI eligibility
- Must possess a valid US Passport, not expiring within 6 months
- Must be fully eligible for Qatar Visa
- Must be willing and able to deploy and abide by required COVID quarantine requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent Native Cultural Experience
- Multi Lingual capabilities; i.e. DARI, FARSI
- Experience with Information Operations

Our Peraton Team is currently seeking a TS/SCI cleared CAT III DARI Linguist and Cultural Advisor. Peraton hires and retains the most qualified candidates and experts within their areas of expertise. In addition, Peraton is committed to holding its employees to the highest standards of excellence. Linguists may be required to complete an annual evaluation and retesting process to determine eligibility for possible extension of services required. Shift work may be required Duty location is Al Udeid AB, Qatar, Secure US Military Compound. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on Afghanistan Tribes, religious, ethnic groups and influential moderate voices. SME is required to have an expert understanding tribal, religious, and ethnic landscape in its effort to counter extremist activities
- Provide support to key leader engagements events conducted in Afghanistan with relevant Afghanistan partners (Remotely)
- Translate, interpret and analyze oral and written material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations. Provide translation in written or oral form.
- Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis services to ensure actionable data and products are developed and processed quickly and accurately.
- Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text (Translations)
- Translator will (1) read and comprehend the languages, (2) write comprehensibly in one of the source languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression in the Source language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language (referred to as congruity judgment).
- As an Interpreter, have a command of both of the languages (DARI/English)
- Must be able to (1) comprehend both the source language and English as spoken and written, (2) speak both of these languages, (3) choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language, (4) have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages, (5) have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields, (6) research in source (Native) languages and write a comprehensive command level information paper.
- SME shall possess detailed knowledge of the operating environment to include Joint, Combined doctrine as well as host nation (Afghanistan) laws and regulations
- As needed the SME shall participate in Interagency and Coalitions working groups, and serve as the Operational Cultural advisor expertise.
- Be prepared to work extended workweeks.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, International Studies, Anthropology, Communication or a related field from an accredited and reputable institution
- Candidate can substitute 10 years or greater experience in lieu of a formal bachelor’s degree and be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in understanding Afghanistan tribes, religious, ethnic groups and influential moderate voices and ethnic landscape in its effort to counter extremist activities
- US Citizen
- Must have an active DOD Top Secret SCI eligible clearance
- Must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience working in support of US Armed Forces or US government agencies
- Must have a minimum of 4/4/4/ scores or higher in testing scores both in English and a 5/5/5/ in DARI Dialect
- Must be willing to deploy for periods of 180 – 365 days in support of US Forces (Duty Location Al Udeid, AB, Qatar)
- Must be willing to travel within the restraints and conditions of the Global Pandemic/COVID-19
- Must be able to provide Objective, Unbiased, & Logical cultural advisement.
- Must be able to follow orderly and sequential systematic procedures and guidelines.
