Resident Engineer

Position summaryPlans, schedules, supervises, and exercises administrative authority over all field engineering work. Controls field engineering activities, prepares construction and procurement schedules, conducts subcontract negotiations, and provides technical mentorship to support construction operations in accordance with Company procedures and industry practices. Willingness to relocate to construction site locations is encouraged.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Plans, prioritizes, and ensures adequate staffing, execution, and monitoring of all field engineering activities and related support operations.
  • Provides mentorship regarding scope of work, schedules, procedures, field construction problems, and other technical information. Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains construction engineering quality control in the field.
  • Collaborates with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees. Ensures that personnel of the assigned group engage in safe work practices in compliance with site-specific safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with project design engineering, client representatives, and contractors.
  • Maintains project control documentation, design drawings and specifications, back-charge documents, change orders, etc.
  • Supervises contractor performance pertaining to schedule and conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
  • Makes decisions regarding long-range planning, scheduling, budgeting, work priorities, and personnel.
  • Provide advice on field engineering procedures, construction methods, and financial matters to management.
  • Frequently collaborate with upper-level management and client personnel.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Technical skills and experience required

  • Proven leadership capability.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with minimum 10 years or (MSc) Degree with 7 years post graduate experience in site supervision and contract administration.
  • Experience in managing process, engineering contracts, contractual maters, value engineering, systems, procedures and policies.
  • Relevant IT skills / computer literate.
  • Emphasis on Quality Assurance, Specifications and Statistical Quality Control.
  • Should be able to review shop drawings and carry out acceptance / factory tests, ensuring the compliance with the project’s Specifications.
  • Excellent Command of English both written and spoken.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of contractual relationships.
  • Knowledge of international standards, codes and ADM regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes as well as working knowledge of industry practices.
  • Commitment to quality and safe work practices

Personal competencies required

  • Pro-active and inquisitive.

The role will see you interacting with the project sponsor to maintain the scope, cost, and schedule of moderate to complex projects. This will include developing and maintaining the project management plan and managing communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help design I&D initiatives by applying judgment in tailoring methodologies, processes, and practices to specific requirements of programs/projects and business units.
  • Build, develop and manage scope and project plans, including a schedule for complex projects.
  • Create key project communications for senior leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and report project/program progress, using quality and performance metrics appropriate to the project/program.
  • Handle resources, tasks and costs based on the project plan.
  • Participate actively in external diversity conferences and organizations.

We are committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges in the areas of water, energy and urbanisation.The Chief Risk Officer reports to the CEO as part of the Enterprise Leadership Team, and has prime responsibility globally to design, develop, implement and lead GHD’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) framework to realize GHD’s business objectives while ensuring compliance with the Board’s Risk Appetite Statement and Risk Tolerance Limits.

The CRO:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to the following risk functions across the Enterprise to identify risks, to develop risk controls and to ensure appropriate implementation and verification of the effectiveness of the risk controls:
  • HSE (in relation to GHD’s HSE responsibilities and social license to operate)
  • Insurance (excluding lines associated with employee benefits)
  • Quality (in relation to project delivery)
  • Sustainability (in relation to GHD’s sustainability footprint and social license to operate)
  • Strategic and Emerging Risk
  • Co-ordinates with the relevant Enterprise Leaders to identify risks develop risk controls and ensure appropriate implementation and verification of the effectiveness of the risk controls.
  • Provides leadership to the regional Commercial Management teams concerning their role in handling commercial and contractual risk on projects.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Participate and contribute to the development of the long-term Enterprise strategy for GHD
  • Predict and interpret the global competitive landscape, growth opportunities, and industry developments across the Enterprise positioning GHD to take advantage of identified opportunities.
  • Translate the Enterprise strategy into the strategic business plan for the Risk function and sets the growth priorities within the context of GHD’s strategic intent, mission and vision

Leadership

  • Inspire, instill and role model an inclusive, client centric culture that sets clear standards and aligns to GHD’s core values of safety, teamwork, integrity and respect
  • Set the long-term direction and expectations of each Risk function ensuring clear performance expectations and accountabilities, provide regular performance feedback and driving improvement
  • Develop, mentor and empower the Enterprise Leaders of each Risk function to lead and run their respective functions across the Enterprise.
  • Develop leadership capabilities within the team and focus on the development of future leaders to ensure there is an effective succession plan in place and a sustainable talent pipeline for Chief Risk Officer position and direct reports.

Performance

Requirements:

  • Professional qualification in Risk Management, Law, Business, Engineering or related degree.
  • Post graduate business-related qualifications (highly desirable).
  • Member of the relevant professional bodies as applicable to their profession.
  • Validated leadership and executive management skills.
  • Relevant experience in risk management and/or operational management in a Professional Services organization, commensurate with level of responsibility. Strong preference for global leadership experience
  • Deep understanding of the risk environment for a global Professional Services organization.
  • Ability to draw upon functional subject area knowledge and global best practice and use discretion to solve highly complex problems in largely uncertain or unprecedented environments.

This role can be located in any GHD location, with a preference for GHD hub locations in each country.
