Requirements
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Executive Director of External Relations. Reporting to the Dean, and as member of the senior leadership team, the Executive Director will be responsible for the development and execution of GU-Q’s external relations strategy.
Key Accountabilities:
Oversee the development and implementation of GU-Q’s external relations strategy.
In collaboration with the Dean and senior leadership, identify, establish, and cultivate relationships with external stakeholders in order to advance GU-Q’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.
Lead a team of professionals responsible for managing areas of strategic importance, including alumni relations, outreach, special events, protocol, and joint partnerships.
Key Activities:
Proactively identify and pursue opportunities that elevate GU-Q’s visibility and reputation, both locally and globally.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop new and enhance existing externally-focused programs and initiatives.
Contribute to the management and cultivation of relationships with stakeholders, including senior executives, government officials, community leaders, and other strategic partners.
Act as a senior advisor to senior leadership on all matters related to external relations and stakeholder engagement.
Work closely with Communications to develop and implement strategies that effectively promote university programs, initiatives, and strategic priorities.
Lead the planning and execution of high-profile events, ensuring events are executed at the highest level and in compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
Ensure all external relations events are strategically relevant, and regionally appropriate.
Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of external relations strategies, and make adjustments for improvement, as needed.
Serve as a spokesperson for the university, as needed.
Remain up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and apply relevant insights to inform organizational strategy, execution, and decision making.
Manage and oversee the work of direct reports, including setting and reviewing performance objectives, and identifying training and development needs.
Manage budgets for a broad range of external relations initiatives (including events, outreach campaigns, etc.).
Other similar duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred.
8+ years of relevant work experience; at least 5 years’ experience managing a team(s) of professionals.
Managerial experience in external relations, preferably in the higher education sector.
Experience leading complex initiatives with diverse stakeholders.
Experience in communications, public relations, and/or external affairs preferred.
Experience with event planning, marketing, and promotion preferred.
Proven ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across departments, levels, and functions toward shared objectives.
Proven ability to exercise high levels of discretion and sound judgment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals across various cultural and institutional environments.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Outstanding communication skills, including editing, writing, and public speaking.

The Faculty Writing Support Specialist will provide guidance and resources to faculty in all stages of the writing process. Through workshops, mentoring, coaching, and providing editing support, the Faculty Writing Support Specialist will play an important role in helping to advance faculty writing and scholarly publications.
Key Accountabilities
Provide effective advice and coaching to faculty around their scholarship plans.
Work closely with faculty to promote success with scholarly publications.
Offer targeted resources for faculty at all levels and at all stages in the writing process.
Key Activities
Proof, standardize, and edit proposal sections written by peers and other writers on the proposal team to ensure they reflect the language of the proposal.
Provide coaching and editing support to faculty on academic writing and the mechanics of style.
Read and review all documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency in formatting, and alignment with different style manuals and campus-specific guidelines.
Suggest alternative words or phrases and guide writers on flow, sentence and paragraph structure, and organization of ideas overall.
Provide developmental feedback on monographs, journal articles, tenure/promotion dossiers, and other documents.
Assist faculty in preparing proposal narratives and documents in compliance with university, sponsor, and other guidelines and deadlines.
Review and provide feedback on proposal narratives and documents.
Provide consultation services on research strategies, tactics, tools and best practices for the development of grants for submission, as requested.
In collaboration with the research and compliance office, conduct training sessions for faculty and students on grant writing strategies and workshops to support academic writing.
Facilitate writing groups and workshops throughout the year.
Develop workshops to share promising practices around developing and sustaining regular writing efforts.

Requirements
Master’s Degree, preferably in humanities or social science field.
5+ years of relevant experience supporting professional and academic writing.

Excellent interpersonal skills, intercultural competence.

Events Coordinator

Requirements
The Events Coordinator meets with shareholders before the event and then executes required tasks to guarantee its smooth functioning. The role is a long-term/ongoing position with a shift pattern and non-standard hours.
As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only who have a valid Qatar residence permit.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to inquiries from vendors, guests, and participants regarding GU-Q events;
- Coordinate with GU-Q Communications regarding media relations, invitations, and advertising;
- Coordinate with Building Operations team to determine event locations, and to arrange for parking, security, set-up, handymen, etc;
- Coordinate with the Finance team for any purchasing;
- Coordinate with IT team to ensure proper Audio Visual set up and services;
- Coordinate with Auxiliary Services for pantry services, transportation, extra cleaning, office supplies;
- Post signage in the building and arrange with Building Operations team for external signage;
- Prepare risk assessment for assigned events;
- Present safety briefings at the beginning of events;
- Supervise entire catering function for event – including contracting the caterer, monitoring the set up and monitoring food hygiene;
- Ensure that events are posted to the appropriate GU-Q calendar;
- Coordinate required supplies for events: office supplies, decorations, entertainment supplies;
- Attend the events in the shift to provide support and trouble shoot;
- Manage registration and attendee tracking at the event;
- Coordinate invitation labeling in a timely manner to allow for mailing or delivery;
- Coordinate and manage volunteers;
- Manage event attendance records;
- Note event successes and difficulties for future improvement;
- Maintain inventory of events supplies including academic regalia, decorations, etc.;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School diploma;
- 3+ years of experience in events, preferably at a higher education or non-profit institution;
- Strong command of the English language, both verbally and in writing;
- Knowledge and understanding of special events management and conference/event planning;
- Ability to handle a multitude of tasks;
- Ability to adapt and respond positively to changing circumstances or priorities;
- Proficiency with MS Office;

The Office of Academic Services (OAS) is a dynamic academic support unit providing a variety of programs and services to enhance learning for all students at GU-Q. OAS offers individual and group tutoring in academic reading and writing across the disciplines; Arabic as a heritage or foreign language; French as foreign language; and economics. In addition, OAS leads a variety of workshops and programs throughout the year to help students develop their academic skills and aspire to excellence.
OAS is currently seeking a part-time Writing Specialist who will support the development of students’ academic writing skills. The position will work primarily with students on their course assignments in the humanities and social sciences via one-on-one tutoring.
This is a part-time (up to 20 hours per week), non-sponsored position that requires all applicants to already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar. The position will be scheduled to work in the afternoon hours throughout the academic year (from August 15 until June).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide individual tutoring to students working on documents at various stages of the writing process.
- Work with Coordinator to deliver training to student tutors on the fundamentals of writing center tutoring and provide ongoing feedback that supports their professional development.
- Locate and/or create support materials such as citation guides, handouts, videos, and/or presentations for use in tutoring sessions, workshops, and online.
- Assist Coordinator with regular operations such as scheduling and advertising as well as special projects.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of OAS to support student success.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred, in English, Composition, Rhetoric, Communication Studies, Education, TESOL, or related field with an emphasis in writing
- A minimum of two years’ experience teaching writing or working in a writing center at a postsecondary institution;
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse writers;
- Excellent research, writing, citing, and editing skills;
- Experience providing academic assistance in study skills and effective learning strategies;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively.
- TESL/TESOL/CELTA or equivalent is an asset
